Your Skincare, In Order.

One sequence, then as many steps as your skin and your morning allow.

Serum before moisturizer, or after? Does eye cream go first? Where does an oil sit? When the products themselves are suitable, applying them in a considered order makes a routine easier to use and cuts out unnecessary layering. This is the sequence VOLÉDESA LABS builds its Rituals around. It is a guide, not a rule: texture tells you roughly where a formula belongs, and each formula's own directions have the final word.

The idea behind the order

Lighter textures generally go on before richer ones, water-based steps before oil-based ones, and treatments before the layer that finishes. That is the whole principle. Where a product's directions say otherwise, follow the product.

The sequence, step by step

1. Cleanse. Cleanse in the evening, and cleanse in the morning as your skin and routine require. In the evening, an oil-to-milk cleanser like LUMINA removes sunscreen and makeup and rinses to a soft finish. A gel cleanser suits oilier skin. In the morning, many people need only water or the lightest wash.

2. Prepare. Optional. A hydrating toner or mist leaves skin fresh for the step that follows.

3. Treat. Hydrating steps such as AQUAIRE go on after cleansing or toning, following their own directions. Targeted treatments — exfoliating acids, brightening or firming serums — have their own instructions, and some call for clean, dry skin. Add only the targeted treatments that serve a clear purpose in your routine, following each formula's directions.

4. Eyes — optional. If you use an eye product, apply it as its directions describe. ÉVEIL, for example, is tapped gently around the orbital area after serum and before moisturizer, morning and evening.

5. Moisturize. The step that finishes the face. Choose by how your skin feels rather than by trend: a lighter gel where skin feels oily, a cream where it feels dry, a fragrance-free formula where it feels sensitive. The Moisturizers collection is organised that way.

6. Evening oil-serum. Some formulas are made for the evening. NOCTURNE, a bakuchiol oil-serum, is applied in the evening after water-based serums and before, or in place of, moisturizer depending on what your skin needs. Other oils follow their own directions.

7. Protect — every morning. Finish every morning ritual, however short, with a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher and follow its label directions, including reapplication. VOLÉDESA LABS does not make one and nothing in the ritual replaces it.

Morning and evening

Morning is for hydration, moisture and sunscreen. Evening is for cleansing properly, any formula whose directions place it at night, and a richer finish if your skin wants one. The NIGHT RITUAL is the evening version in three steps: LUMINA to cleanse, NOCTURNE to renew, VEIL to finish.

Weekly steps

Exfoliating treatments and masks sit outside the daily order, at the frequency their directions give — RESURFACE, our lactic acid peel, is used one to two times a week in the evening on clean, dry skin, with sunscreen the next day. Do not combine exfoliating or potentially irritating treatments in the same routine unless the directions of each support it. If skin becomes irritated, reduce frequency or stop; for persistent concerns, consult a qualified professional.

Three steps, five, or seven

A streamlined ritual can be complete without being elaborate. In the morning, cleanse as needed, moisturize and finish with broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. In the evening, cleanse, add a treatment suited to your routine and moisturize. Toner, eye care and facial oil can be added when they serve a clear purpose. The ESSENTIAL RITUAL brings the core steps together.

Five steps adds the prepare and eye steps; seven is the full sequence above, with the evening oil-serum included. These are optional targeted layers — they do not promise better results or make the ritual more valid. The right number depends on what your skin needs, which products sit well together, how much time you have, what your skin tolerates, and what each formula's directions say. A ritual you keep is the one that works.

The body has an order too

Wash, then a body serum, then a body cream where you use one, then oil to finish. LUSTRE BODY goes onto clean, dry or slightly damp skin after bathing; OLEA is applied after bathing or layered over body cream as the final step. Not every skin needs every layer. THE BODY RITUAL is wash, serum and oil together.

If products pill

Pilling can come from excess product, insufficient settling time, layering order, friction during application or formulas that do not sit well together. Use less, allow each layer to settle, apply lighter textures first, and if two products still pill, try them at different times of day.

The Rituals are the order, already done

Each Ritual is designed as a sequence, while each Method brings together formulas around one visible concern. If you would rather not assemble the order yourself, that is what they are for.

Every VOLÉDESA LABS formula is vegan. Additional standards are identified on the individual formulas they apply to. Read how we label.
