What Vegan Skincare Means at VOLÉDESA LABS

Question: what does "vegan skincare" actually mean, and does it tell me anything about how the formula will behave on my skin?

What it means

Vegan skincare means the formula contains no animal-derived ingredients. In practice that rules out things like beeswax, lanolin, honey, collagen and keratin from animal sources, carmine, and animal-derived glycerin or squalene. It says nothing about whether a product was tested on animals; that is a separate claim, and we keep the two apart.

At VOLÉDESA LABS this is the one standard that applies to the whole collection. Every formula is vegan, without exception, across CORE, PRECISION, BODY and VL MEN. It is the reason "vegan" sits in the brand line rather than on a badge.

What it does not mean

Vegan does not mean fragrance-free. Several of our body formulas are scented on purpose, and a number of our face formulas contain fragrance. Vegan does not mean hypoallergenic. It does not mean "gentler" or "cleaner" in any measurable sense. It means what it says: no animal-derived ingredients.

We think this matters because vegan is often used as shorthand for a whole cluster of qualities a product may not have. We would rather you know exactly which standards a formula meets.

How we label everything else

Every VOLÉDESA LABS formula is vegan. Additional standards, including fragrance-free and allergen label free, are identified on the individual formulas they apply to. If you see one of those on a product page, it applies to that product, because the supplier documentation for that exact formula supports it. If you do not see it, it is not there. We do not show crossed-out standards, and we do not imply a standard by leaving it vague.

The full explanation, including what each standard means, is on our Formula Standards page.

What to look for

If vegan formulation matters to you, look for a brand-level commitment rather than a product-by-product one, and look for the ingredient list to back it up. If you are also sensitive to fragrance, look for the fragrance-free label on the specific product rather than assuming it from the word vegan. And if you want to understand what an ingredient is for, our Ingredient Library is written in plain language.

How to build the ritual

Being vegan changes nothing about the order. Cleanse, treat, layer. Start with the concern your skin is showing you, choose the formulas that answer it, and apply them thinnest to thickest. How to build a ritual walks through it, and how to layer covers the sequence.

Relevant formulas

All of them. If you are new to the collection, ESSENTIAL RITUAL is the three-step floor: cleanse, hydrate, moisturize. For sensitive skin that wants fragrance-free as well as vegan, SÉRÉNE is the place to start; it carries both standards on its page because the documentation supports both.
